The Society has recently opened the Sir Robert Ball Library at the Institute. The Society is the UK’s national society in this field, and its library at the BMI, is its national reference library.

Society of Bookbinders
An organisation dedicated to the promotion of skills and knowledge in the craft of bookbinding. Founded in 1974 and with a current membership of some 750. The Society welcomes all with an interest in the hand made book, both professional and amateur. Activities are arranged regionally and typically range from workshop and practical demonstrations, to visits to major libraries, binders and craft suppliers. Nationally the Society organises a major biennial Conference offering lectures and master classes by internationally renowned figures in the bookbinding world. Other one and two day classes are offered at other times.
