A Smile That Would Break A Camera Lens!

As I have often said, there is nothing better than putting something into the hand of a person who never thought they would actually see it. Recently, we were cleaning and sorting in the basement, and had just organised the Central Literary Association magazines. We have bound copies and individual copies. Literally hundreds of individual copies. They took a day to sort into order and were on the floor waiting to be filed.

As we finished sorting them, we had a phone call from a man in Devon named. He had a copy of the magazine which had an obituary for his Great Uncle, who was ‘oft published’ in the magazine. He had found out that we had a supply of the magazines, rang and asked if he could come and see them. Of course, he could!

He made the trip with his wife and was overjoyed to see so many copies of the CLA magazine. He spent some time sifting through them, finding the copies of his Great Uncle’s publications, and because we have multiple copies, he could buy the appropriate ones. He was so happy, I would have taken a photograph of him, but his smile was so bright it would have broken the camera lens!

This is one of the great joys of working here. Being able to put something into the hands of someone who never thought they would see the real thing in real life is such an honour. It was lovely to meet Laurence and be able to make his day.
