Monday Lecture – 6th April, Professor Roger Ward: Joseph Chamberlain’s last unauthorised programme: Tariff reform

April 6 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

in two lectures in 2019 Professor Ward examined conflicting ideas of political economy in nineteenth century Birmingham.  In this lecture he will examine Chamberlain’s conversion from Manchester School ideology to the idea of a reassertion of a Birmingham School more attuned to an era imperial rivalry & international economic competition.

His tariff reform campaign, abortive though it was, had immense political repercussions.
