Christopher Joll was educated at the RMA Sandhurst and Oxford University. He served in The Life Guards from 1968 to 1975, during which time he spent two years in Northern Ireland during the early years of The Troubles. After leaving the British Army, Christopher worked in the City and in industry, including several years as the international sales director of the Coventry armoured car manufacturer, Alvis Ltd.
